When Clutter is Too Much to Handle

August 10, 2010 By Stephanie Bennett Vogt 8 Comments

clutterscream

I received this note from a friend on Facebook the other day:

“What do you charge to come out and HELP!!!??? I don’t even have time to read your book (which I DID buy) or the blog. And to that the 30 boxes I moved in of my dad’s crap and I am drowing in it!!!!”

My reply:

Oh honey, I hear ya!!

I don’t actually do “clutter clearing consults” – that is why I wrote the book.  My specialty is space clearing.

I know the book feels like too much to handle right now when what you want most is immediate relief. But I strongly encourage you to give the book a try. It is designed to help, especially the most desperate situations!

Since I see clutter as a much bigger life issue, my book will support you in ways you never imagined. As you begin to clear the clutter on the “inside,” the clutter on the “outside” [like the boxes of “dad’s crap”] begin to fall away – effortlessly – almost like magic.

If that is still too much to handle, just start by reading Chapters 4 and 7. They will help you move some stuck energy – enough so that you don’t feel like your circuits are fried.

As a last resort, I recommend you Google clutter clearing professionals in your area and go with one that you resonate with…. Then go back to doing the practices in the book! ;-)

Good luck!!

p.s. Be sure to read my blog post from August 6th. It is a book review I received recently from a very inspired reader who writes: “I promise reading this will change your life!”

Love,

Stephanie

Three days later I received this update:

“I cannot find your book, found lots of other crap, but not the book. SO, I am ordering another copy today. But, I did three loads of laundry last night. I know that sounds routine but not for me. ONE STEP AT A TIME!”

To which I replied:

Not routine at all. That’s exactly how the process works!!! One thing leads to another and another…

The more you clean, clear, move, fix, finish – something, anything – the more energy is released.

Add compassion and gentle self-care to the process, and you’ve just taken clearing to a whole new level.

WAY TO GO, GIRL!

The rooms that are picked up are SO easy to keep picked up. The office (where any clutter gets thrown so the rest of the place looks OK) is piled high. Time will tell!!!

Ask your (higher) self: “What is one thing that I could do for one minute that would raise my energy level right now?” Allow the answer to arise without thinking too much or forcing an answer, and go do it.

After that let us know what you di…d and how it felt!

        That is your assignment! ;-)

Stephanie, Being an auditory book listener, do you have any future thoughts about a CD version of your book?
Many to many wonderful unread books are amongst my abundance of stuff!

I’ll be watching your postings for workshops and hope that one will line up with my schedule sometime soon.

Hi Louise, Thank you for reminding me what a great idea it would be to put my book into an audio format. I have in mind to reissue my book and adding audio makes so much sense!

What I can offer you right now is an online course version of my book which includes a number of audio meditations (in my voice) and a private journal space. Here’s what one person wrote me just the other day:

“I’m so grateful for your online course (I’m at chapter 4). I’m amazed at the insights I’ve gathered so far from my journal (fear has ruled me like a tyrant)… But most of all, I’m grateful for the sense that with this course I’ve partnered
with you and that I’m not alone facing my fears.”

You can learn more about my online course here: http://www.yourspaciousself.com.

      Happy clearing!
      Stephanie

Dear Stephanie, Thank you for all your wonderful ways of helping! I listened to a guided meditation I came across while wandering around on your site – so lovely with the golden light , breathing into the heart and expanding to fill the home… Now I would like to find it, perhaps download it so I can listen to it regularly, but I don’t remember where to look. Please help. Thanks for everything! Love, Laurey

      Hi Laurey,

Thank you for your lovely note. glad you’re enjoying the site.

The meditation you are referring to is called the “Discerning Field Meditation,” and you can find it here on my website here:

I have begun to see some changes from using your method, and am quite grateful. What I’m wondering is if you have thought about branching out into weight loss? My husband is about 75 lbs overweight and feels totally out of control. I really think your method would help him.
