Stephanie's journey in the not-so-mainstream field of space clearing began in 1996 when she quit a successful twenty-year career as a high school teacher to enter a period of reflection and re-invention—a terrifying place she calls "not knowing." By releasing a huge part of her identity, she was able to get in touch with the things that made her heart sing (and cringe): her passions, her longings, her fears... her clutter.
She was moved to clear her clutter in earnest, exploring the mystery of her own unique brands of "holding on." This process of clearing, which continues to this day—and provides the backdrop to her award-winning book Your Spacious Self: Clear Your Clutter and Discover Who You Are—led her to the epiphany that the simple act of clearing clutter, one drawer or pile at a time, can be profound and transformational.
In clearing away the "dead wood" Stephanie made room to uncover parts of her self that had been neglected and forgotten. An intensive nine-month program in Women's Spirituality taught her to slow down; to listen more and "do" less. What she discovered was that by caring for her self in small ways every day she could be more available to others. This she believes, is one of the secrets to bringing our world back into balance.
Her passion for creating beautiful spaces that support, nourish, and inspire people was further reawakened by her study with the foremost teachers in the field of space clearing. She became one of the first North American practitioners to certify with Karen Kingston, author of the bestselling book Clear your Clutter with Feng Shui. She also completed a four-year, advanced level certification with Eric Dowsett, master dowser from Australia and author of The Moment that Matters. Eric's teachings have allowed Stephanie to take her space clearing work to new heights of elegant simplicity.
Stephanie also counts over thirty-five years training in metaphysics and various healing modalities, including the work developed by José Silva, Usui Reiki as taught by John Harvey Gray, study with Dr. Brugh Joy, and the pioneering energy and Earth healing work of Rev. Desda Zuckerman, master dowser and teacher from Northern California.
Stephanie is a gifted teacher in her own right who credits all her years in the classroom for the enthusiasm and skill she brings as a communicator, organizer, and improviser. She specializes in making things simple. She loves creating safe opportunities that stretch and move her audiences to let go and experience release—or "real ease" as she calls it. Stephanie gets a rush every time she finds a key that unlocks an "ah-ha" moment!
As much inspiration as she has found through life experience, extraordinary opportunity, and study with brilliant teachers over the years there's no replacing the wisdom that simply comes from living life in present time, embracing (by feeling) the shadow when it shows up, and entering each moment with innocent curiosity. When she can bring these qualities to the table, she feels totally spacious —and complete.
Stephanie lives in Concord, Massachusetts where the spirit of the famous transcendental visionaries, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau, is still very much alive. She lives with her husband of twenty-plus years, and their brilliant and joyful teenage daughter. Stephanie loves photography, travel around the world, and just plain "hanging" in her sunny window-seat sipping a great cup of coffee. She calls this daily, contemplative ritual her "Sol Time."
