Heart of Clearing

Clearing spaces and people is a journey that sheds light on that which has been kept in the dark (i.e. denied, suppressed, unhealed, unloved…).

The essence of clearing that we offer here ultimately cannot be learned in a book. There is no “getting this” by using the head. Its success is directly proportional to your ability and willingness to feel your feelings completely without personalizing them, or judging them as good or bad.

Stressful patterns that keep our homes, workplaces, and lives in a constant state of imbalance have a way of vaporizing in the presence of pure, elegant compassion.

So what is “non-identification” and what does “holding a space with compassion” mean exactly?

Non-identification is a form of witnessing detachment that allows you to simply “be”  – not attached, not afraid, not judgmental – around people, places or things that may hold a charge or bring up your “stuff.” Emotional weather patterns can come and go without your getting plugged in by them, your buttons getting pushed, or your taking them personally.

Compassion is what gives detachment its humanity. It is a quality of spaciousness that allows you to feel safe enough to let go. Held in compassion, feelings of grief or shame or fear, for example, will lose their charge and reorganize naturally into something more spacious, more coherent. Watch a mother hold her disconsolate child without conditions, or an agenda, or a need to fix or “do” anything, and you get the idea. The child walks away feeling all better because his mom simply held a space for him.

Really good space clearing practitioners can clear a space by simply feeling the energetic stress patterns that the client cannot, for many reasons, feel for him or herself.

The practitioner can unlock (by feeling) years of trauma (suffering, painful memory, attachment, contraction, toxicity) held by a person or place to the extent s/he is not attached, either to the pattern or the outcome.

In effect, it is a practitioners’ ability to detach from the “weather patterns” of their client – essentially becoming bigger than the pattern – which results in its ultimate release.

This high level of clearing is pure heart in action; clearing that is sustainable; clearing at its very best!

Eric Dowsett further explains this concept…

“Consider how we have lived our lives in the past, how, through personalizing experiences, identifying with the experience rather than as the one having the experience, we have taken on a lot of emotions and belief patterns as our own.  This has been our conditioning.  As such, we have become our experiences and added them to the sum total of that which we call our personality.

For the most part we have been closed to feelings which we may have judged as “bad.”  Some cultures delight in experiencing feelings, some avoid feeling at all costs.  But even those that are open to feeling emotional energy still place narrow limitations on what they feel and when.

Through fear or ignorance we may well have shut out a lot of feelings, possibly because feelings were associated with pain.  When we begin this “clearing work” the object is to open up to feel again, without personalizing or identifying with the thought or feeling that arises.  We seek to work with the information of our environment, or those in that environment with compassion and understanding, rather than our habitual fear and judgment.

When we recognize that the thoughts and feelings that arise in our awareness are not ours, rather they are simply how our body/awareness is reading information transmitted from an “external” source, we no longer have to take that information, thought or feeling, seriously.  This allows us to be much more compassionate and non-judgmental.  Above all though, by our practicing not taking the thought or feeling seriously, we are not burdening ourselves with unnecessary baggage.  Even more than this, as we understand that we can feel without suffering the effects of feeling, we are gradually empowered to release our own sub-conscious attachment to various emotional charges that we still hold.”
