"Let the beauty we love be what we do." —Rumi
I re-discovered Rumi surfing the internet recently. I was looking for something else and landed on a very unassuming site that featured something like 50 poems by this 13th century Sufi mystic. I ended up spending the better part of two hours scrolling down each one, swooning.
Rumi makes me go weak in the knees. His poetry is so fluid, yet it has this way of jolting me wide-awake, in the gentlest way. It’s a direct hit to the heart every time I read his verses.
Though it’s difficult to choose which ones to showcase here, I decided to feature a few selections that made my knees go the weakest; the ones that remind us to…
Invite beauty and gratitude…
“Today, like every other day, we wake up empty and frightened.
Don’t open the door to the study and begin reading.
Take down a musical instrument.
Let the beauty we love be what we do.
There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground.”
Invite the present moment…
Though there’s no place to get to.
Don’t try to see through the distances.
That’s not for human beings.
but don’t move
The way that fear makes you move.”
“There is a channel between voice and presence,
A way where information flows.
In disciplined silence the channel opens.
With wandering talk, it closes.”
“Your hand opens and closes, and opens and closes.
If it were always a fist or always stretched open
you would be paralyzed.
Your deepest presence
is in every small contraction and expansion,
the two as beautifully balanced and coordinated
as bird wings.”
Hmmm… “Your deepest presence is in every small contraction and expansion.” Still breathing with this one.
How about you? What do these poems stir in you? How do they make you feel?
Wishing you a summer brimming with beauty, presence, silence, and flow.

One Minute Clearing
“I want to be here with this moving on, moment to moment, sweeping.” –Gunilla Norris, Being Home
Take out your favorite broom and and spend sixty seconds sweeping the main entrance to your home [even if it's not the doorway you commonly use]. Sweep with the intention of bringing in fresh energy (or a new opportunity, a relationship, a bigger paycheck, or a solution to a problem you've been having...)
Repeat every day for a week and notice any shifts, synchronicities, ah-has.
Your Spacious Self at the Kripalu Center
On March 14-16, 2010 I will be teaching an expanded version of my signature workshop “Your Spacious Self: Clear Your Clutter and Discover Who You Are” at the Kripalu Center in Lenox, MA.
I have always thought that this program is much better suited to an overnight retreat spa-like setting. Now is your chance to dial it way down, experience yummy spaciousness, eat delicious food, and clear more clutter, stress, and holding patterns you never knew you had! …Then glide home afterwards feeling renewed, refreshed, supported, and inspired to continue clearing.
Save the Date: The program begins on the evening of Sunday March 14th, and runs through noon on March 16th.
SpaceClear on Facebook
Calling all Facebook friends and phobes: How do our spaces reflect us, affect us, support us? How do we create a more vibrant home and live a clear life? I just created a new page on Facebook to raise and explore questions such as these. Participation is optional.
This page is designed to raise awareness and support us all in feeling lighter: a place to exchange resources, share stories, ah-has, inspirations, wonderings…
To help build the energy for this space, click the box where it says Become a Fan. You will receive occasional messages in your regular Facebook NewsFeed by me and other SpaceClear fans who are moved to post an update. You can unfollow any time.
Watch this six-minute segment on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and tell me you don’t feel lighter …and freer.
And then see if you can’t be more like this 88-year old “hot ticket” for the rest of the week.
A number of programs are in the works for 2009-2010.
