Cultivating Ease

Not-Camping
Without self-care,
there is no clearing. –sbv

Most of us think of caring for ourselves as an extra-curricular activity. Something we squeeze into our lives at the end of the day. Or when everyone else in the family is taken care of, or we’re sick.

If I’ve learned anything at all about the subject as it relates to me personally and professionally it would be this: Supporting ourselves with daily doses of self-care is not optional. Without it, clearing the stress and stuff in our life becomes a tedious chore – and a big reason why most clutter clearing efforts do not last.

The self-care model works because it is body-centered, and immediate. It softens and quiets the noisy mind. “I’m overwhelmed by stuff,” "This house is a disaster,” “If I slow down how will I get anything done,” for example, is unhinged in the presence of pure ease.

As we welcome a whole new year... er, decade, I officially declare 2010 the Year of Ease. You can begin by taking a minute after you’ve read this newsletter to do something that makes you feel good. Or read my “Ten Ways to Feel Better Fast,” and Elizabeth Gilbert’s complimentary essay on Ease to inspire you.

For regular doses of easeful inspiration, check out my newly upgraded blog; or consider taking one of my workshops designed to deepen your experience of ease and spaciousness.

Whether it’s a pathway of slowing down, simplifying, self-care (…or, more camping ;-)), I wish you all my best for an EASE-ful new decade!

Blogs are Homes Too

Hands HomeIf you haven’t visited my blog lately you might be in for a pleasant surprise. SpaceClear Reflections has moved into a spanking new, beautiful, spacious home!

Unlike the personal diary model of blogging, I’ve always wanted my blog to be more community-based: a place you could stop by for an energizing visit; a nourishing destination where you go for a quick bite or a full-course meal, join in the conversation (or not), share a comment or a resource – that sort of thing.

Generating two posts a week for a year adds up, however. Without a sensible way to organize, showcase, or even remember what I have, can begin to feel like…dare I say…clutter…! Even things we treasure can quickly morph into a useless, space-taking, energy drains if they don’t have a home of their own and easy access.

So what do you think of our new, bigger digs? Go the home page and you’ll see my last 12 posts neatly laid out like little goodie bags. Scroll down the sidebar or hover your mouse over the header tabs for a quick hit of clearing inspiration, resources, and opportunities. Type any word in the Search box to locate messages of interest to you.

This space is for you. I hope you’ll stop by often, tell your friends, and let me know what supports and challenges you to connect with your spacious self.

The door is always open.

Ease by Elizabeth Gilbert*

Flaming June“We are the strivingest people who have ever lived. We are ambitious, time-starved, competitive, distracted. We move at full velocity, yet constantly fear we are not doing enough. Though we live longer than any humans before us, our lives feel shorter, restless, breathless…Dear ones, EASE UP. Pump the brakes. Take a step back…”
