“Look for the answer inside your question.” –Rumi

Are you noodling on something? Have a nagging question? Can’t seem to get past a problem to a solution? Don’t know where to even begin moving the piles off your floor…?

Then just ask a question.

  • What is one thing I can do right now to move this pile?
  • What is one thing I can do for one minute that will help me feel better fast?
  • What is one thing I can do to turn this situation around?
  • What is the best use of my time right now?
  • What is s/he trying to tell me?
  • What is possible here?
  • What can you do for me?
  • What else is possible?

Turn whatever it is you’re chewing on into a question. It will get the brain juices flowing, cut through the noisy mind, and lead to a creative solution that you may not have thought of – especially if you are not attached to the outcome.

And if that doesn’t do it, this inspiring one-minute video by Gary Douglas, the creator of Access Consciousness might help. As he puts it: “A question empowers, an answer disempowers.”

PS. Want to know my secret for getting something I need or could really use?

When I’m dealing with a human who is the gatekeeper to something that I need or could really use (like a better seat on a plane or a restaurant, for example), I’ll start with something positive like: “I’ve been a very loyal customer,” or “I’ve been very patient,” etc. and and then follow it with my magic question: “What can you do for me?” or “Is this the best you can do?”

It works like a charm, especially if I can stay neutral and not be too attached to the outcome.

Try it and let me know how it works for you!
